About Dan Madsen
As an art director and creative designer, I’ve spent years honing my skills in graphic design, illustration, painting, and photography. A significant chapter of my journey was as the director of creative print services at Sony Pictures Entertainment, where I contributed to over 200 films, including iconic titles like Spider-Man (1, 2 & 3), Men in Black (I & II), and Stuart Little (1 & 2). I’ve also worked as an Art Director for Wizard World Comic Con, overseeing more than 40 shows.
My artistic journey began in Whittier, California, inspired by artists like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Jackson Pollock, who embodied simplicity and graphic impact. As a pre-teen, I loved drawing Disney characters with pastels and colored pencils. My passion for photography blossomed in junior high school, where I spent two years learning to process film and create prints. In high school, I continued my artistic pursuits, earning two first-place ribbons at the Los Angeles County Fair, and discovering the captivating world of silk screening. I studied fine art at Cypress Junior College and later at The Art Institute of Southern California in Laguna Beach. During college, I also worked as a photojournalist for The Mountain News in Lake Arrowhead, California.
After three years leading the photography department, I joined Sony Pictures Entertainment, where I enjoyed 12 fulfilling years before transitioning to freelancing.
Now, I’m excited to share my fine art with the world. Through years of drawing, painting, silk screening, and photography, I’ve discovered that my true passion lies in pop culture, combining all my artistic knowledge and techniques.
